Now that the color scheme is finished, the actual shopping for the home computer furniture can begin. Your next decision involves deciding what type of equipment you need. For example, let us say you need a monitor, hard drive, printer, keyboard and mouse.

Once you have determined the equipment you need, it makes it easier in picking out the home computer furniture. There are different styles of furniture to choose, such as corner models, units that drawers and shelving for storage, etc. Make sure your cabling can reach the wall sockets without having to stretch the cables all across the floor, which makes for a rather unsightly mess and can be a safety hazard for people walking across the floor.

Proper setup is crucial to the work at home individual since they depend on their computer for their livelihood. Ergonomics plays a key role in setup as well. If you are unsure of the correct setup for maximum efficiency and comfort, consult a sales professional in the home computer furniture department. Alternatively, in case you feel that the sales agent may not provide you with the proper answers, you can consult the internet for the correct ergonomic setup before heading out to the store.

After the home computer furniture has been installed and you are happy with its position and appearance, you should properly maintain it so it lasts a good long time. It is very important to dust the area around the computer hardware because when dust gets inside the computer it can cause problems with the inner workings of the system. It is recommended that you do not eat around the computer as well. Crumbs and spills cause issues with the keyboard and other hardware as well.

Change Your Home Decor With Drawer Pulls

The summer season is steadily approaching. The warm summer season includes necessary tasks such as mowing the lawn, putting away your winter wardrobe and barbecues outdoors with your family and friends. Additionally, the summertime is a great time to tackle long overdue home renovations and minor do-it-yourself projects. One minor yet essential decorating project is to change your current home décor with new drawer pulls. Changing your drawer pulls can instantly make any room look entirely refurbished without the accompanying headache, dust or chaos. If changing your drawer hardware seems overwhelming, keep the following guidelines in mind.

Guideline #1: Make a List
Whether it is a list of stores to stop in on Saturday afternoons or the weekly grocery list, lists help keep homeowners organized. Keeping a list of the rooms you would like to redecorate will involve multiple lists. For each room you would like to tackle, you should have a separate sheet of paper. In each room, you should account for the number of cabinets, drawer pulls, hinges and floor registers; these are the smaller hardware pieces you will need to match in material and finish.

Guideline #2: Establish Your Style
Before even considering purchasing or replacing anything new in your home, you should evaluate each room. Is there already an established theme or style? Does each room’s individual style flow nicely into the adjoining rooms as well as the overall décor of the home? With each room’s style in mind, you should consider and write down the colors, styles, finishes and other home accents that contribute to the overall design. This will help you later determine what colors, materials and designs in drawer hardware will compliment each room.

Guideline #3: Ask for Help
While hiring a professional to conduct home renovation projects might save you a headache, for smaller projects such as replacing your cabinet accessories, a professional is not only unnecessary but wasteful. Use the money you will save by doing this renovation project yourself toward the budget for your new cabinet knobs, pulls and handles. Instead of a professional, however, ask your neighbors, friends and relatives for tips and pointers on what styles, sizes and materials work – and don’t work-in their homes. Their advice is invaluable, especially if you have smaller children.

Guideline #4: Get Shopping
Once you have determined the material, style and finish of cabinet accessories you’d like, its time to get shopping! Especially for busier homes, you might not have time to run out to the nearest hardware store to browse their available accessories. An even easier solution is to browse online. Not only do online stores typically offer a larger variety (including hard to find styles or unusual designs) but also, online stores usually provide a discount for larger or bulk purchases – which means even more money in your pocket.

Guideline #5: Remove, Replace & Relax
Once you have purchased your new cabinet knobs, you are almost finished your home decorating project. With a screwdriver, gently unscrew all hinges and screws that mount the cabinet knobs, drawer pulls and finger wells to their respective cabinet fronts. Remove any back plates (if any) that correspond with any handles. Keep all the old parts in a sealable bag so that no screws or smaller bits are left behind. The easiest way to remove and replace these cabinet hardware units is to remove one handle and immediately install the newer fixture before moving onto the next cabinet. This way, you will eliminate the possibility of missing any handles. Repeat the steps above throughout each room in your home that you have elected to update.

Once all your rooms have newer, shiny cabinet fixtures, it’s time to relax and enjoy your hard work. Congratulate yourself on a job well done, especially with all the money you saved. It’s now time relax and enjoy the sunshine outdoors!

Either way, make sure to screw them in tightly, but not too tightly so they don’t damage the track with tension. That can hinder the doorway’s motion.

Step Six: Hang Them – You’re almost done. All you have to do now is suspend your wardrobe sliding doors on the tracks. You may need to get a friend to help you. Once this is done, your closet is ready to be stocked with clothes, collectibles or whatever else you can dream up to store inside of it.

Transform a Plain Wall With Simple DIY Home Decorating Tips

Give a sparse space a makeover

We are not all blessed with a fireplace on which to place treasures, but now you can fake one! Here are a few handy tips and tricks on how to transform a plain wall in your living space into something of a feature and talking point.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to redecorate a room. I’ve listed three great ideas on ways to spruce up a plain looking wall.

A Fake Fireplace – How to do it

Measure and mark out two pairs of pillars on your wall – we suggest 90cm apart, 100cm high and 6cm wide for each pair. Invest in blue masking tape, which won’t rip the paint off your wall (ask for it at your local hardware store).

Choose the shade you want your fireplace to be. We opted for plain black paint, but don’t be afraid to experiment with color – and fill in the spaces between the tape.

When it dries, carefully peel off the masking tape to reveal the base of your fireplace. We used a shelf as the mantelpiece, but you could paint another stripe at the top.

A Funky Wall Display – Make it.

Make a wall display from small canvases and embossed paper. Simply tape the paper to the canvas, ensuring there are no crease lines.

Dress up a wall.

For an eye-catching effect on a plain wall, use black and white photos in cluster frames to create a classic look.

Arranging objects that complement the tones of the wall will help draw attention to your display.

A Fake Window – Hang it.

Why not hang some curtains around a landscape painting or photo? This will give the illusion of a picture window. Take a picture of a beautiful landscape outside and have it blown up by a printer to poster size. This is a unique way to display art as well as creating the illusion of more space with a framed window.

Don’t be afraid to try something different. Remember your house should reflect your personality so if you have funky eclectic tastes then one of these ideas would suit you down to the ground!

Alternative and DIY Home Decoration 101 – A Primer

When you’re young and living in an apartment or a dorm, chances are, you can’t do much to make that space feel like your own. Especially if you want to do really interesting, alternative things, and even more so if you don’t have a ton of money. Does this mean you’re bound to live with bare white walls and ugly furniture? Absolutely not! Here are some alternative/ punk/ emo home design tips for the DIY-inclined.

Color and ambience:

Most apartments and dorm rooms come with standard-issue white walls. Boring! Want to add some color, without much hassle? Christmas lights. Truly, there is no easier way to change the color, look, and feel of a room than by using these lights. They’re simple to hang: you can just tack them up around the border of your room’s ceiling. Put all red lights up, and your room will appear to have a red hue to it. You can even put up more than one color, and choose which set to plug in. Blue today, green tomorrow. It’s simple and affordable. To further add to the effect, you can switch the bulbs in some of your lamps to colored “party bulbs.”

Since a lot of emo kids like to have ambient lighting, this is a perfect choice. Even plain white Christmas lights can change the look of a room, without providing too much light.

Floors:

Do you have boring floors? Ugly tiles or nasty carpet? No problem. Buying an area rug can be expensive as anything… but many stores sell large, but affordable bath mats that you can use as smaller area rugs. It may sound strange, but there are plenty of stylish, large bathmats out there to choose from, including ones made of fake fur. Bonus: they’re meant to be slip-proof, and tend to be easier to clean if they get wet than an area rug.

Further, a DIY/punk type could easily buy and cut what is known as remnant carpet to either carpet smaller rooms or to make their own area rugs. The whole idea is to be creative!

Futons:

Did you inherit an old futon that isn’t the nicest ever? Futon covers are expensive, but you can find bed sheets that fit the futon for significantly less money. At “mall punk” stores, the average emo or punk kid could find all kinds of neat things, like Nightmare Before Christmas sheets… and even in the kids’ sections of regular stores, there are plenty of interesting and cute things. Halloween is a great time to seek out things like spider webs and pumpkins; Valentine’s day is great for hearts. Be creative! Throw blankets – usually cheap and made of fleece, are an affordable option to finish out your fun, personalized futon. Oh, and pillows! Don’t forget the pillows! You can usually find them for affordable prices [along with pillowcases of your choice] at major discount stores.

Your kitchen:

Craft store, craft store, craft store! I can’t stress this enough! You can find all kinds of things cheap and ready to customize, at almost any craft store. Storage tins, jars, and containers can be customized to hold anything from spoons and spatulas to food items or napkins. These stores, as well as major discount stores, also usually have affordable towels – though the holidays are a great time to stock up on ones you like. Craft foam can be used to make kitchen [or dining room] place mats – and you can customize them however you want, to boot!

Furniture

While you’re at the craft store, you may notice some unpainted, boring wooden furniture. Or maybe you’ll hit a thrift store and find some hideous looking, but functional, furniture. Your easy solution? Paint. Just buy some paint and sealant [that part is important; it will protect the paint] and make furniture that suits your needs and personality. Want a purple dresser? There’s nothing stopping you! You can paint your DIY furniture with a brush, or en try different techniques, like stencils or sponges, to get different effects or multiple hues.

General supplies:

If you are going to get into alternative and DIY home design, it is important to have some basic supplies:

It is always good to have a bucket and strong cleaner on hand, just in case something spills.

If you’re painting furniture or other items, an inexpensive drop cloth is a good idea. You can use a cheap plastic table cloth or shower curtain liner for this.

Pencils are good for sketching out designs, marking tack holes, or for jotting down measurements. Scissors and a sharp utility blade should also be in your bare basics kit, as should glue. A hot glue gun is great for decorating, especially if you will be adding things like jewels or stones to items [such a plain storage boxes or canisters]. A hot glue gun can also be used for small repairs on wooden items.

In the end, when it comes to having an alternative looking apartment or dorm, without spending money, the trick is to look to the DIY punk and emo ethic and be creative. Once you tap into your creativity, there is really no limit to what you can do!
